Here are some ideas on how to write your own story. Of course, you may have your own ideas too.
Keep it simple. Pick a subject that you know something about such as, bike riding. Your story could be about the day you learned how to ride a bike. Ask yourself these questions: Where did this take place? Who was with you? What does your bike look like? How did you feel during the time you were learning how to ride your bike, and how did you feel after you learned how to ride your bike? What do you need to know when riding your bike? What do you really like about bike riding?
Write
your story like you are telling it to your best friend.
One way to start your own story is to begin by drawing or creating pictures that are about your story. Then put your drawings in the order of your story. Once you have done this then you can start describing your pictures.
When describing your pictures for your story, write about what you or others are doing, saying, or thinking. You may want to write about how things look, feel, smell or taste.
Once you have finished writing your story you can then practice reading it out loud. As you practice reading your story, think about the emotion or feeling of the story. Try to use your voice to reflect the feeling or emotion of the story.
Share your story with your family and friends and most importantly have fun!
Creating Your Pictures For Your Story Is Fun
Do you like to use watercolor? What about crayons, colored pencils or markers? How about taking photographs or making a collage? There are so many ways to create your pictures for your story. Perhaps you like to use crayons for one picture and watercolor and colored pencils for another picture. It may be fun to combine art mediums such as watercolors and crayons, or construction paper and photographs.
It is most important that you take your time and enjoy the process. This is a journey for you and your parent and/or guardian to explore and create your evolving story. Remember, things may change along the way. But that can add to the fun and to the richness of your story.
